From this heart of darkness to that heart of darkness

Roman Invasion of Britain                     The Belgian Congo                     British Imperialism                           American Imperialism

Picture

Conrad's novella, Heart of Darkness predates Achebe's Things Fall Apart by some six decades;  Conrad has Kurtz write a report for the International Society for the Suppression of Savage Customs, and Achebe ends his novel with the District Commissioner planning to write an anthropological narrative called The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger.

Why do you think Achebe treats the District Commissioner in such a satirical light? In your view does Conrad's (Marlow's) European perspective dehumanize and misrepresent Africa and Africans?
