I lay flat, staring at the ceiling, and think about my mother’s advice: count sheep! But why must one count sheep? Why can’t we count snakes or starfish or seahorses? I love seahorses. I smile to myself and start the sequence of seahorses. By the time I reach the sixth seahorse, I’m fast asleep, in a sleep deeper than my troubles.
