The night is interrupted by the light that comes in through the window on the right side. My eyes, tirelessly die in spite of how hard I fight to keep them open. They close shut, tight, no one in sight. My head drifts away in the wave of dreams. The imagination then leads the way. By the time I know it, it is now day. What I dreamt last night; that thought has now decayed. The journey ends. A new day is now awaiting. The ray of sun says “hey.” Reality is here.

I lay flat, staring at the ceiling, and think about my mother’s advice: count sheep! But why must one count sheep? Why can’t we count snakes or starfish or seahorses? I love seahorses. I smile to myself and start the sequence of seahorses. By the time I reach the sixth seahorse, I’m fast asleep, in a sleep deeper than my troubles.

Last night i felt my self toss and turn under my blankets and slowly open my eyes to the dark hotel room. I rolled over to the night stand to check the time on my phone and i saw the time. It read 4:21 am. But it looked like the clock was watching over me and suddenly stopped when i woke up. I questioned myself, does time watch us as we fall into a deep sleep? Does it ever stop? How much time is there in the world?
